“Ahmadu’s family, from Kwali, Nigeria, faced a life of hardship and struggle. Three of his four children were born with cleft lips and palates, a condition often misunderstood and stigmatized in their community. Despite the challenges, Ahmadu’s story took a turn for the better when he discovered Smile Train.
Smile Train’s partner, Cleft & Facial Deformity Foundation (CFDF), provided Ahmadu’s children with free surgeries, counseling, and social support. Through this partnership, the family received the care they needed to thrive.
Lawani, 22, Mohammad, 18, and Aliyu, 10, had suffered for years with facial deformities, facing stigma and discrimination. But thanks to Smile Train’s support, they received life-changing surgeries and a second chance at life.
Ahmadu’s family is a testament to the power of addressing ignorance, poverty, and poor access to healthcare. Their story serves as a reminder that with the right support, families can overcome even the most daunting challenges.
Smile Train’s work has transformed the lives of Ahmadu’s family and many others, offering hope and a brighter future for those affected by cleft lips and palates. By working together, we can ensure that families like Ahmadu’s receive the support and care they need to thrive.
Let’s continue to spread awareness, provide support, and offer access to quality healthcare, creating a brighter future for all.”
