USE DENTAL AUXILIARIES TO CREATE AWARENESS ABOUT DENTAL PROBLEMS AT THE GRASSROOTS, RETIRED TEACHER CRIES OUT AT IPAPO FREE DENTAL PROGRAMME.
Mrs Mary Ojekunle, a 63 year old retired teacher has called on the Oyo state government to step up measures to increase awareness of dental diseases at the grassroot. According to her, Dental Surgery Assistants could be employed at the local government levels and effectively used to disseminate information at the primary health care level including schools, regarding preventive dental care. She bemoaned the outright absence of dental activities at the grassroot and urged government to shift attention to the scourge.
Mrs Ojekunle was a beneficiary at the recent free dental treatment programme at Ipapo community in Oke Ogun that was organised by Cleft & Facial Deformity Foundation, an Abuja based Non-Governmental Organisation, with focus on dental and orofacial diseases. About 1396 dental patients benefited from the programme that has covered the ten local governments of Oke Ogun. According to Dr Seidu Bello, the director of the foundation, the sensitisation programme will continue subject to availability of Funds.
